Today in this article, I would like to share about the Holy Spirit and his impact on our lives. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity after Father and Son. Even though he’s been mentioned multiple times in old Testament, I’m going to quote few from the New Testament. Jesus was baptized by the Holy Spirit(Luke 3:21-22) . Before his ascension, Jesus promised to send the gift, that is the Holy Spirit who proceeds from the father. (John 14:26)

During our baptism, we received the Holy Spirit and we are relieved from our mortal sin. The Holy Spirit is our helper, comforter, source of strength. We need the Holy Spirit to help in our time of weakness, guide us in truth and testify for Jesus.

How do we know if Holy Spirit is with us in our daily life ?

Well, we’ll be radiating with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self control in our day to day life. These are the fruits of having Holy Spirit in our life(Galatians 5:22-23). This actually symbolizes the ideal state of Christian life.

How do we reach this stage ?

We should get rid of all the bitterness, jealous and anger from our hearts. No more insulting words or hateful feelings of any sort towards others. We should ask the Holy Spirit’s help and guidance every day. We should completely surrender ourselves to the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit gives us seven gifts to help us lead the true Christian life.

Gifts of HolySpirit(Isaiah 11:2):

Wisdom helps us recognize the importance of others and the importance of keeping God central in our lives.

Understanding is the ability to comprehend the meaning of God's message.

Knowledge is the ability to think about and explore God's revelation, and also to recognize there are mysteries of faith beyond us.

Counsel is the ability to see the best way to follow God's plan when we have choices that relate to him.

Fortitude is the courage to do what one knows is right.

Piety helps us pray to God in true devotion.

Fear of the Lord is the feeling of amazement before God, who is all-present, and whose friendship we do not want to lose. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom.

The Holy Spirit's presence within us enables us to understand and interpret God's word. When we sin, we lose our contact with the Holy Spirit. And we get confused about what is right or wrong and start making wrong decisions. We need to retrospect ourselves frequently and if we suspect that we are not radiating the right qualities, then its time to do a good confession and cleanse our hearts so that Holy Spirit can re-enter our lives and guide us.

Let us invite the Holy Spirit in our hearts and guide us in leading a true Christian life.

Praise the Lord
